Paju City has built Smart Gardens (indoor gardens) at two locations: the Central Library and the City Information Center.
A Smart Garden is a new form of indoor garden that improves working environments and citizen convenience by planting indoor-suited species — such as Sanhosu and Scindapsus — in indoor spaces, then maintaining them through automated management technology.
In the first half of this year, the city built Smart Gardens at six locations within industrial complexes and one medical institution, and now has added them at the Central Library and the City Information Center to make them more accessible to citizens.
The Central Library is currently undergoing remodeling under the slogan "the center of my life — capturing time," and is scheduled to reopen on October 29. The 5th floor, where the Smart Garden was installed, in particular adds comfort to its environmentally friendly atmosphere.
The City Information Center, where about 50 control-room operators and staff monitor more than 4,000 CCTVs for citizen safety, now offers comfortable rest through its lush indoor garden — a relief for staff who battle computer screens 24 hours a day.
Heo Jun-su, head of the Park & Green Spaces Division, said, "By creating Smart Gardens within public facilities, we hope these spaces become healing places where citizens can feel four-season green spaces and relieve stress."
